Interesse in deze mooie gitaar?   (published in South Africa)

January 28, 2018 by   Comments(0)

Hallo iedereen,

Groetjes Olivier!

2 weeks here!   (published in South Africa)

July 26, 2017 by   Comments(0)

I have now been here for 2 weeks today!

It feels very strange that it actually feels like I've been here a month already. And that's not to say that time is passing slowly because I am not enjoying myself . . . Just that I have crammed so much into so little time!

The best part about this week so far though is that I would say that the Care project that I am involved in is starting to get easier. The first few days were overwhelming for sure. About 30 kids, all under the age of 5, 3 or 4 adults , all in one room . . . And in bad weather the roof (made of metal sheets and black bags) leaks and the electricity cuts out! However!!! The kids are a good laugh and the staff that work there are lovely. They are sooo grateful for anything that we can do and are welcome to any suggestions that we have. Our aim is to improve the overall hygiene of the creche so there is a lot of cleaning, organising and routine-creating . . . Not to mention the song we sing to the kids when they wash their hands!!! (Feel like I'm singing that in my sleep!!!)

Strange to think that 2 weeks today I will be back in Scotland! I miss everyone like crazy and I am excited to see them but I definitely know that I will miss it here.

Mandela Day!!   (published in South Africa)

July 18, 2017 by   Comments(0)

1 week down.

In some ways it feels like I have been here for a month, with the amount I have done! And then in other ways it feels like time is flying.

I think I have felt every emotion under the sun in the last 7 days. So much excitement about all the adventure still to come. Anxiety about wether or not it will go well. Can't deny that I was overwhelmed about my first day on my project and I have already suffered a bout of homesickness!!!!

BUT! I'm having a blast and so glad I'm here!

And a hidden bonus. My trip has co-incided with Mandela Day. Every year on 18th July, Nelson Madela's birthday, everyone commits to 67minutes of service to honour the 67 years that Mandela worked so hard for his country! So today all the project abroad volunteers helped to paint houses that have been re-built after a fire in one of townships.

I honestly feel honoured to be a part of it!

Bring on next week.

New Adventure's-Eve!!!   (published in South Africa)

July 10, 2017 by   Comments(0)

I can't believe the time is actually here!

This time tomorrow I will be flying sky high on my way to Doha, then on to Cape Town, South Africa.

It's safe to say that I have never felt such a range of emotions! One minute I feel like bursting into an excited song and dance and the next I feel like I may cry as I am so scared! I have not flown long haul since I was 9 years old and I have only travelled on my own once before . . .and that journey was only between Scotland and Germany!

Tomorrow I will be embarking on almost 24 hours of solo travel. A very strange thought to comprehend.

But hey, just as the saying goes.  The greatest things in life lie on the other side of fear.
