It is strawberry time!   (published in Morocco)

April 26, 2012 by   Comments (0)

It is a pleasure to welcome the spring, its buds and blooms, and its veggies and fruits! So strawberry has now arrived… and it is great news! J

The strawberry is widely cultivated in northern Morocco and in several regions of the centre. You can find it in souks from early spring until late summer. When it is widely abundant, in the middle of the harvest season, it usually gets cheaper. But with this year's drought, let us see how things will work out

The strawberry is also cultivated in greenhouses, but it is much better to wait for its natural harvest season. This cute little fruit has vitamin A, B and C that stimulate the body's defence. Strawberry is also rich in citric acid, malic acid, oxalic acid and sugar. Mineral salts and trace elements are also present in a beautifully balanced way: potassium, calcium, iron and magnesium

Well you got it, strawberry is tasty, fresh and good for your health

Now check this simple and quick to make strawberry salad recipe that we make here in Morocco for desert

Wash the strawberries meticulously. Cut them into average size dices and put them in a bowl with granulated sugar. Let them absorb the sugar. Of course if the strawberries are sweet enough, you wouldn't need to add more sugar, but the latter is good for taking away the strong acid flavour strawberries may have

Squeeze some oranges, 2 big ones or 3 average ones, to have a fresh juice. Add the juice to the strawberries. Younow have your salad, and you can add either of these

Lemon zest

Cinnamon stick

 Two fresh mint leaves

Chopped vervain

Orange blossom water

Bon appétit

Henna night - April 4th   (published in Morocco)

April 23, 2012 by   Comments (0)

April's  first Get Together took place at Al Abbady's house with all the volunteers! The special event of 4th April's Get Together was the Henna session. Our professional Henna designer was there to make tattoos to all the volunteers who wished to. Flower designs and Arabic script were most privileged by the volunteers. As usual, nice Moroccan snacks were prepared by the host family, with the unavoidable mint tea served at will

Meet the new social officer   (published in Morocco)

April 23, 2012 by   Comments (0)

Hello ! Salam Alaykum

I am Soumaya, the Projects Abroad Morocco social officer, replacing Yussef who went back to University to resume his studies

I am 25 years old, and live in Kenitra, a lovely little city 30 minutes away from Rabat

I studied Professional Communication and English Literature. Before joining Projects Abroad, I mainly worked in the field of Communications and PR in Casablanca. My interest for human development led me to work with an association based in Guelmim, where I settled for a temporary mission. Afterwards, I took some gap months to travel in the South of the country with which I literally fell in love

In March 2012, I worked with Projects Abroad for a 2 weeks special programme, then I joined the team as a social officer. So here I am! It's been a few weeks I'm here, and I really enjoy coming to work every day. What I mostly like about my job is meeting volunteers from all around the globe, and getting to know their motivations, their backgrounds,  and what they are willing to give to make their experience worthwhile

I love having strolls in Rabat's Centre ville and the old Medina, reading books, cooking and travelling

I am looking forward to meeting you soon, and I wish you a happy and successful stay in Morocco with Projects Abroad
