MEXICAN RUG DOLLS
Mexican rug dolls have been one of the most popular souvenirs/toys for years and years, made by traditional artists and crafted with natural resources, they are based on popular festivities or traditions coming from the different states in our vast country; they can be mainly found in fairs or markets during certain annual celebrations.
Dating back to a Pre-Hispanic time, these traditional toys are still beaing produced in the states of Puebla, Michoacán, el Estado de México, Oaxaca, Guerrero, Guanajuato, incluso el Distrito Federal. Full of color and dressed in typical Mexican clothes; considered to be relatively economic figurines, mostly for decorative purposes, these lovely art pieces draw everyone’s attention mainly due to their “simplicity” and vivid friendly looks. They are like ghosts of Mexican traditions that have been slowly fading through the sands of time, ghosts that come visit to remind us of long gone beautiful traditions that should not be forgotten; for they cultivate the heart, culture and family customs of this land.
