February 2012

almost goodbye :(   (published in Costa Rica)

February 28, 2012 by   Comments (1)

Ok so last post for costa rica before I leave in 3 days, not going to lie this experience has gone so quickly, wish I was here for longer! I have spent the last two weeks working in Escuala Aplicacion teaching english to year 1 and 2 year olds, they have all been very sweet and my teacher has been very helpful and supportive. For the next week there is a big fiesta within liberia which means dances, fireworks, alcohol, bull chasing and lots of music, it has definatley been one of the highlights of my trip, the whole atmosphere is amazing,

For those who might be reading this and are coming to Costa in the near future, I have some possible additions you might want to consider packing before you come;

* LOTS OF BUG SPRAY, too much is never a bad thing

* same goes for aftersun

* If you are looking to go surfing, girls might want to consider bringing a rash vest of bikini which they know isnt going to fall down if a wave comes their way,

* Costa rica isnt that cheap, so bring as much moisteriser, make up remover and shampoo as you can as it is relativley expensive out here,

* bring a spanish dictionary or phrase book, it has greatly saved me from what potentially could have been awkward situations,

*bring sensible trainers/sneakers/football boots, their are football pitches here so you can play,

* also, blisters have been common with many volunteers so also bring plister plasters and a travel first aid pack.

* it might be worth bringing your laptop, as many places have wifi and it is nice to skype with friends/family/boyfriends ect

I think that is all but All i can is that you will love Costa Rica!! Long live the Pura Vida!

Trip to Yoko, Saturday 18th .   (published in Costa Rica)

February 21, 2012 by   Comments (0)

 Hi Everybody!!!

I would like to share with all the experince that we have here in Costa Rica last Saturday 18,where  Projects Abroad Costa Rica made a trip with the volunteers to the Hot Springs that its located near to Liberia, around 1:30 hour away. This was an excellent experience, becuase it was something different in which they had a time of relax and could meet  those who they dont know yet.Rhe name of the Hot Springs is Yoko, that place is most of the time very fresh, but now we are in summer and for this reason we had a lot of sun with us!

Hope this experince was something nice for them , i know it is, thank you very much to all who partipated and shared this time.

Fotos   (published in Costa Rica)

6th week   (published in Costa Rica)

February 14, 2012 by   Comments (0)

During this week I have spent the days during the pool and the weekend at Tamerindo. For those who are coming to Costa Rica i thoroughly encourage you to go as the atmosphere is amazing. Myself and others left on the Friday afternoon and arrived at our hostel ´La Oveja Negro´at around 8. For 2 nights it cost 15,000 colonnes which was a fair price. During the night we went to Áqua club where we danced and enjoyed cheap ( however not neccessarily the most appetising) drinks.

During the majority of Saturday i went for a surf, the waves were good however the wind was rather strong which pulled the tide towards the rocks which from my friends own experience, hurts when falling and hitting your feet. !! Tip: definatley wear factor 50 on your face shoulders and bum when surfing as you dont want to spend the rest of the day with a blistering nose and a bright red burn line! Also, take a tight t shirt to wear so to save the embarressment of your bikini top falling down everytime you wipe out. !!

Today i have taken part in a teaching meeting, showing us how to construct and plan a lesson and how to motivate the pupils to want to take part and learn new english words and skills.

This weekend i am to go to the hot springs organised by Projects Abroad which should be good!

Ciao! x x

5 weeks in, trying to stay slim   (published in Costa Rica)

February 9, 2012 by   Comments (0)

ok, so 5 weeks in, and im going to be honest with you, i havent achieved much. my placement doesnt start until

next week so it has been tanning session after tanning session by the pool!

it has been 35 degrees this week whilst in Europe it has been apparently well into the minus's! On tuesday there was however the rare occurance of rain whilst myself and some other girls were sunbathing, was not a happy moment. Last night i went to the cinema to watch 'Man on the Ledge' which was great, despite the fact i really dont like action films!

I am starting to run out of money so have had to start a type of budgeting scheme of 4000 colonnes a day ( equivilent to 6 pounds) which is enough to pay for water and a drink in the evening.

This weekend i am going to go to Tamarindo Beach possibly for one night to fit in some partying and some surfing. hopefully that should be fun, and will be able to show off my new salsa moves on the dancefloor ( very badly).

 x x ciao

Von der Arbeit in Barra Honda an den Strand   (published in Costa Rica)

February 5, 2012 by   Comments (0)

half time   (published in Costa Rica)

February 3, 2012 by   Comments (0)

Ok, so 4 weeks have passed, glad to say i am not red anymore and now much browner,.This week i have spent my time at Diria National Park near Santa Cruz ( monday to friday). There, myself and 3 other volunteers slept in bunk beds and spent our days cleaning the accommodation, eating lots of rice and beans, as well as seeing amazing animals such as vampire bats, howler monkeys and armadillos! I was very glad I brought a mosquito net as other volunteers there had up to 15 bites on their ankles, rather them than me i must say!!

A definate highlight of the week has been finding a massive water pool which is perfect for swimming in. Above the pool was half a dozen monkeys or so and fish in the pool which was such an amazing experience!

Next week i think i start working in a school in Liberia, apparently i am teaching year 1 and 2 students ( 6 and 7 yrs) which should be fun!
