Festival Blanca Navidad

       Everything has been prepared to the most important annual Christmas event that took place in Liberia down town on December 3th at 6:00 pm, the parade started from the Gas Station traffic lights on the main street boulevard, as is usual streets were prepared with Christmas lights and some Christmas Carols. In that parade participate Educative Centers, Banks, Stores and many city commerce such restaurants, art and culture groups and more. Liberia City and suburbs enjoys this parade because they try to do the best participation to show an excellent show during evening and night time and of course the weather was so good that night.

        In this event the main character was Miguel Fajardo Corea who is a famous poet and writer, he was born in Liberia city and he has won important national awards such 2001 national award to culture an diffusion, 2008 Mauro Fernandez Award and 2009 Omar Dengo Universidad Nacional Award; he shows us that he is one of the most important writer and poet around Costa Rica but mainly his humble personality is the most important characteristic that he has. He is an example of personal overcoming for everybody.

        In this festival fourteen bands would be participating, among them 12 national and two international bands one of them from Panama: El Hogar band and from Nicaragua: Rosendo Lopez. At parade ending  people went home so tired but excited at the same time, so this activity is one of the most expected during the year and it shows how important is the culture expression and of course Christmas celebrations for the Costa Rican character.

       As is usual we got our Monthly Dinner on November ,and it was for many of them tle last dinner with Projects Abroad Volunteers and staff members , because many of them are leaving on December after they got their placement vacations and of course they got some plans to make a good trip around Costa Rica...

     We had a special person with us in that dinner too, so Suzi Lamb was visiting us on November and we share good moments with her and by the way she met our volunteers in Costa Rica...

       We will miss you a lot guys and Costa Rica Staff wish a Happy Christmas Holidays to everyone!!!!

 Volunteers have been working in their Last Dirty Weekend 2010, but they feel so proud due to they did a great job together, so they made some improvements in El Peloncito Placement , actually teachers and kids are so happy because el Peloncito School now has a better makeover such a new wall picture, then the volunteers clean the play place around the school, they place some whiteboards in some of the classrooms, and of course they share good and unforgettable moments together.

      Many of them are leaving Costa Rica after their vacations, but they don´t forget their friendy ties that they did in Liberia placements, with the teachers, host families and of course wit the the kids, and local friends that they got here... and of course we will be waiting for the new volunteers that are coming soon ....

              We  will miss you guys !!!!

Costa Rica, as with many other countries around the world, has its own unique and special way to celebrate Christmas. As the last days of November past by, the weather start to change, it becomes windy and in some areas colder than before and the sky looks clear. As the wind starts to blow harder and the days start to get colder, the people begin the decoration of their houses.

Today we have a special parade it is a Christmas special parede called "FESTIVAL BLANCA NAVIDAD" and whit its start the chrstmas season in Liberia, during this celebration you can try to eat typical food properly christmas special food such as: tamales, arroz de maiz, vigorones, coffee, chicha, horchata, roast beef, and pork beef , and more...
